The gift of giving

For a while now, I have been involved with a Charity organisation, called YH World through one of the most beautiful non-profits in the analytics arena, Analysis Exchange.

YH is a youth organisation in London, giving young aspiring media professionals a chance to gain some hands on experience and some exposure to improve their chances of employment.

Our second round is just underway, coinciding with the holiday season. This will give these young professionals some time to ponder over what we were discussing in my session. The YH website is relatively new, with a low level of traffic, characteristic of new sites. So one of the most important conclusions we drew after our first project was that they would need to improve their traffic, ie, focus more on the keywords of their target groups and write specifically for those areas. Thus an SEO copy-writing crash-course was in order.

This is how I ended up in Hackney, (going the wrong direction first – don’t trust Google maps – and apologies for the late arrival, guys, again) running a little SEO training session on how engines and searches work, from a journalists’ point of view. How focusing on a set of keywords that are in your niche can help you establish yourself as a authority in your field, and how you can get your hands dirty with the various keyword and search tools to lay down a solid career path.

It was a refreshing change for me, after the numerous corporate trainings I ran this year, it was good to just stand their, in a t-shirt, talk passionately about something I feel can change your writers’ lives. So it was charity for Christmas, but it was actually a big gift I received. Thanks a lot Lucy. Thanks guys.
